HNS Name Claim; New Mailing List
A quick plug for the HNS Name Claim program. And check out our new mailing list, created to showcase the best for-sale top-level domains sourced from the Handshake community.
Departing briefly from the usual market analysis and commentary found on this blog, today’s post highlights an important community-led initiative within the Handshake (HNS) ecosystem and introduces a new blockdomains/ publication.
HNS Name Claim
Given that the HNS Name Claim program debuted in late May, we are clearly not breaking this story. However, due to the importance of the cause and the thoughtfulness of its execution, this initiative deserves amplification. In summary, the Name Claim program aims to connect trademark-holders with their HNS top-level domains (TLDs).
Trademark infringement poses perhaps the single greatest existential threat to Handshake as a protocol and as a commercially viable segment of the digital real estate landscape. Though he has yet to sell any HNS TLDs (to the author’s knowledge), Andrew Rosener is a top traditional domain investor and broker. In his HANDYCON keynote speech (see ~9:00 mark) he identifies uncertainty around intellectual property rights enforcement as the most significant obstacle to browser adoption of Handshake. The HNS Name Claim program founded by marksmith/ and graham/ puts action behind this sentiment by, in effect, establishing a clearinghouse to which Namers may donate trademark-associated TLDs (or TLDs otherwise closely identified with an individual or organization) and creating a claims mechanism for rightful owners to take ownership.
blockdomains/ is proud to support the HNS Name Claim program through an initial donation of 16 TLDs that the author accumulated for safekeeping over the past several months. Hopefully the corresponding well-deserving organizations and individuals will take full control of their digital identifies soon!
TLD Showroom Mailing List
In response to perceived demand among participants in the TLD secondary market, blockdomains/ is pleased to debut the blockdomains/ showroom, a curated mailing list. Currently, owners of for-sale TLDs struggle to stand out from the clutter of the Namebase Marketplace, Discord and other normal venues of promotion. Meanwhile, buyers seeking to acquire quality TLDs must sift through pages of filler, since currently there is no categorized listing of for-sale TLDs, let alone a curated one.
To bridge this disconnect between buyers and sellers, the blockdomains/ showroom will feature a selection of for-sale TLDs sourced from the community. Sellers are invited to submit their TLDs for inclusion, and buyers (and anyone else interested!) should subscribe for access to top listings. As of the time of this post, dozens of readers have subscribed to receive the first issue and over 20 quality TLDs have been submitted. The first edition is planned for Monday, July 12.
In order to present a relevant, concise and actionable selection of TLDs to subscribers, submissions will be screened for quality, price reasonableness and other factors. Please read more about the showroom, submit and subscribe below:
